"So, while the names have changed periodically, that's the way it's worked in PSIA-RM for quite some time. TA--now RMT--is a "level," DCL--now E1 (Examiner 1)--is a job on the Education Staff. (Unlike the old DCL, E1's actually do conduct our Cert. 1 exams, so we felt the need to change the name.) And many instructors still refer to TA as "Level 4"--because that's exactly what it is.

And the TA/RMT/Level 4 standard does indeed represent a significant jump beyond Level 3. The pass rate is typically 10-15% and, of course, you must be Level 3 to apply.

Especially with our apparent obsession with naming and renaming with obscure acronyms, I wouldn't mind at all if we just called the spade a spade and went with simply, "Level 4."

Best regards,
Bob"

Thanks for the links. They are informative.

However, it's still not conclusive about the level. My ski school has 1 examiner and 2 DCL(s). It seems that they should be stronger than other L3 in the ski school. The actual strongest/best skier is a different person (luckily that I have been under his mentoring) who has helped them reach their DCL status. I asked him, "you are the best skier here, why don't you pursue to become an examiner?" He told me that it required a lot of travels and commitment, and he wanted to spend more time with his 5-year-old and a 7-year-old.

In conclusion, certification level is just a general category of an instructor's ability, while some stronger skiers (e.g., pku) do not even care getting higher level certification when their actual levels have far exceeded their certification.

:face (343):

The "strongest/best" skier may make sense in your school, but it doesn't make sense in general skiing population; given conflicted requirements in all different kind of skiing, there's no such thing as "strongest/best" skier. And I've also stated the coaches' function is to "coach," not "skiing." Those who overlook students original techniques and abilities, but giving the whole different set of instructions, and etc., only to show off how good their skiing is, (like what pku showed on this forum,) make the worst coaches.

Not how I see it. Given how them Whistler Group shameless bashing me coaching without certification, they are not just "care" heavily on certification, they're stuck on it. Pku has CSIA L2 and CSCF L1, which are pre-requist for CSIA L3, but he cannot pass L3 exams, so he is not "far exceeded" in his certification; actually, he stuck like terminal L2.

"I do not think that anyone would try to compare CSIA Level 4 with PSIA Level 3. Although the standards are not identical, the levels for PSIA and CSIA Levels 1, 2, and 3 are very similar. Beyond that, CSIA has "Level 4," while PSIA has what is variously referred to as "Trainer Accreditation," "Development Team," "Apprentice Examiner," or the like, depending on the division. (PSIA consists of a number of regional divisions that are each somewhat autonomous, while all under the wing of PSIA-National.)

At least in PSIA, Level 3 is what is referred to as "Full Certification," essentially meaning that it represents a level of skiing proficiency, knowledge, understanding, experience, and teaching ability sufficient to teach pretty much anyone, in pretty much any condition and terrain (all but the very most extreme, in my opinion). I believe CSIA Level 3 is similar. Although many instructors informally refer to our "Trainer Accreditation" (now known as "Rocky Mountain Trainer") as Level 4, it is not officially called that, because the intent is that the job of a "Level 4 instructor" begins to shift more toward training of instructors and perhaps eventually to becoming an Examiner, rather than teaching the public. Not all instructors aspire to become trainers, for any number of reasons, so we have kept the designation of Full Certified Instructor for Level 3.

I may be mistaken, but I believe that CSIA's Level 4 is similar, in that most Level 4's do serve as trainers, and Examiners are selected from the Level 4 pool."—Bob Barnes—

It's you the one always show off your skiing but always get negative comments.

You need to show the skiing of those you coach to show you are a good coach, but never saw a coach in skiing without poles all the times in free skiing:face (334):

The most important pre-requite of CSIA L-3 is to take the CSIA L3 Course before anyone can take the exam and I never did the course. Taking those L2 an L1 course is the time I try to retire 10 years ago but need to work again since not enough money to spend. Skiing is is a sport to gather with friends and blow water for fun now.

Only from the gappers like you, and more learned skiers are now treating Taichi Skiing as 「敬鬼神而遠之」. Don't believe me? Try to throw one of my video clips into epicski for MA, see how many "learned skiers" would touch or comment on it.

I think by the time you reach L2, you have, at least should have, learned all skiing techniques taught in the system; nevertheless, the different between L3 and L2 would be L3's mastery of all aspects of "the system's" skiing and L2's merely know how. And of course, beyond the L4, there's also "double diamond class." And most highend skiers still pursue their "perfect skiing." So, yes, the Top Cert is not the end of highend skiing pursuit neither, and that's what I call "fun."

tdk praised norman's skiing also. Lets not forget the praise is qualified under "advanced beginner".

BB makes a fair statement. BB is very careful about what he said. He never said you are an expert. He did say expert should be able to ski like you without problem but just to ski like you does not qualified as expert. He praise your groom runs while I am not sure he will say the same thing about your run, say from wall to eagle bowl.

You should really listen to other things BB said in that thread if you like BB said about you and you think he is a true master. I said it more than one times. Your skiing is fine but let other praise it. Why do you persistently force your own feeling on others. That is what put off people. In the end, you expose so many short comings of your knowledge and your personality. Is that good for you?

No, I don't force my feeling on others, as usual, you do, but you can't, so you invented all sorts of reasons to put down others to elevate your mutated ego. And true knowledge of skiing is not about being praised, but how well you balance G-forces, when you can do it well, you are a good skier, if not, not, is that a big deal? If you cannot match up but think that is a big deal, yes, you've put down/put off yourself. (Really, who cares?) It is good for me if I don't have to deal with gappers like you gapers.

That's what a "weekend skier" "thinks," but doesn't "see" the reality; that is what I've said, "you don't see beyond your skull," so thinking that you "weekend skier" can ski better than me is your typical self-gratifying illusions.

Highend skiing is more than 90% "disciplines," and ski every day, rain and shine, through the whole season is a severe discipline, which is not what you "weekend skier" can imagine. And one big problem with the so-called "weekend warriors, skiers alike," is their lack of practice, lack of experience, and「高不成,低不就」, i.e. stuck in the middle, and still thinking that they are well-trained, and end up get themselves and/or maybe others hurt.

One who like to use "epicski" to bash others to boast his skiing knowledge but doesn't know who BB (Bob Barnes) is? You are way behind your knowledge curve. No, he didn't mention who is Richard Berger, not I know of.

No, I don't know who they are. Did I tell you carry too many garbage into skiing? What you so proud of those big "terms," which act like computer spam, only slow your thinking down, which consequently affects your skiing performance. When I ski I don't carry those mundane thingy with me;「為道日損,損之又損,以至於無」, Taichi Skiing is a moving meditation. I don't chase your mundane little values.

Yup, that proves you and Norman are 「五十步與百步」?

An everyday driving doesn't mean a good driver. Since you don't have a goal and always stay in your comfort zone, lack of guts, strength, technique make you gain no improvement year after year. Your basic skill is quite limited so even you want to develop your own highend way of skiing, the consequence is only a joke

I never post on epicski and is you want to get approval on the internet.

I don't feel a need to show videos and I don't have any in my possession. If you want, come to Squaw to video us together but you don't have courage. All you can do is hiding behind the keyboard bad mouth others.

No, speaking on facts, talking about truths, is called "telling the truths," is never "bad mouths," and if you don't want people "bad mouth" you bad behavior, don't do it.

On top of that, I don't have to prove anything to be able to see your skiing is mediocre. Why did epicski banned you twice if your skiing is so great:face (334)::face (334)::face (334):

One who doesn't have integrity can only see one's own mediocrity. And yes, my banned from epicski was because my skiing was so great and them bears couldn't take the heat, banning me was their easy way out.

Yup, an everyday lair doesn't make a good lair, but you would continue lying to lip-serve your mutated ego. You don't have the guts and techniques to ski fast, so you use "poled linked short turns" to brake the speed in every turn, but you don't know that you are stuck on that little technique? Lying is a good way to psych oneself out. No, you have no idea how I ski, so it is your CSIA L2 a joke.

YOU DON'T NEED TO MAKE EXCUSE

Noone can force you to show up when we are there.

What I need to do is to ski those runs that you took the video and prove that is nothting special, especially the Face that I predict I can finish it in 5 minutes while you need to spend more than 7 minutes to finish it.

Of course the Gunbarrel too which you don't dare to show us how you ski down even I make the request. I guess the bumps there is huge and no place to escape while you can escape the big bumps on The Face and the Little Dipper and stay on the right side of the runs.

Best regards,
Bob"

Nice try to cover your big joke. But the person who exam and train L4 is still a L4, it doesn't make him a L5. Same as PSIA L3,"Rocky Mountain Trainer" is still a L3, it is not L4.
