How do you pivot in powder, especially wet powder? How do you control speed without pivot in powder. One ought to think about use turn shape and terrain for speed control.

If you want to pivot a lot of control speed ( only the twisting motion of the skis) is almost impossible but in heavier snow, the snow is going to slow you down so you don't need to pivot the skis too much.

I got once in a training on powder and because i want to turn my skis too much and the result, I keep falling.

I don't really ski those powder in Whistler good so I'll try to avoid.

I ski last year in Niseko and the poeder there is so light and you can do whatever you want. My freiend there told me he can ski deep powder there with a carving skis ( waist less than 70mm )

Thanks for the information.
I would like to, but the schedule is tight. If I can find a time to go, I will definitely let you know. Me and my friends are discussing our next ski trip to either Steamboat or North Tahoe.

BTW, since you are Whistler's local, I cannot wait to tell you how much we love the Sushi Village and Bear Foot.

Sushi Village is kind of expensive for me and we can have Japanses foof 1/3 of price of Sushi village. I don't go out to eat so I don't know Bear Foot. I only know Bear Paw which is a black run on the middle part of Whistler ( a gentle black run )

while it is a good thing to share technical opinions may i ask u guys to open up a new thread on technical discussions? even keep on saying that my skiing is bad:face (50): i meant to share my joy of skiing in my ski trip with other forum readers, i means those silent readers. i can read from my youtube there are at least 28 persons. so please give some respect. :face (343):

Don't worry, I think they are trying to say how good is your sking. Is that what you want when you post your video?:face (353)::face (353):
You have to respect other peoples because they have their right to talk just like you.:face (325)::face (325):

Yes, I agree. BTW, Harald used to be a member of PSIA demo team.

I wonder if both of you know what is PMTS. If you do know, then what are the primary movements? We can discuss more if you really know PMTS. I know both XSIA and PMTS to a degree, otherwise it will just cause endless debate. What is the point arguing something you don't really understand.

Just watch some of his clip from youtube, no idea.

That is no point to agree terms, just watch how he does it.

I think the PMTS is teaching skiing, I think I know how to ski at a certain extend, I am sure I don't understand the term he use but I understand a bit what he is doing.

If you can show us how much you understand in a video, it will be much better.

There are only 5 skills in CSIA , stance and balance, pivoting , edging , pressure control, timing and coordination, very easy to understand.

Based on the previous answer, it is not really about agreed terms. Isn't it?

The problem is that I never question or disagree with XISA system. Why do I need to show you my understanding?

...what are the primary movements?...

The official definition is provided in the PMTS Instructor Manual (P. RM-31). For simplicity, Phantom Move (Release, Transfer, and Engagement) is an example of primary movements. Is it correct?

Its CSIA, Canadian Ski Instructor Alliance. So your understand is really not much about our system. I also don't understand the PMTS but at least I do copy and paste so I don't spell it wrong.

He is skiing with good mobile althetic stance, sterring with lower body and bouncing from edge to edge. Good skiing

I think all systems are to make people become good skier. Also evey 4 years, there is a inter ski conference for instructor of amost all ski countries to share their experience. CSIA is representing Canada. I also don't know PMTS or the PSIA is representing USA or both.

Start at 2:40, how do you think he changed his edges? I am not challenge you or anything like that, just a friendly information exchange.

YouTube - Harald Harb, Ski Practice 9, Expert Short Turns and Carving, "flexing into the turn"

I will tell you the answer is no. He does not changed edges simultaneously.

The pratice is tipping inside ski first but the result is edges changed at the same time mechanically. I think this pratice is to active more inside leg because inside leg is lazier (or it is harder to turn when it is inside)

You are right, more edge with bother pivoting ( turning the skis ) but ot use pivot and edge together ( which one use more depends on situation )

Not sure what are you saying here, but I think "pivot" and "steering" are two incompatible body movements; you cannot "pivot" (which is "turning" the skis) and "steering" (which is "pressuring" the edges/skis) at the same time, so was my question, how do you "blend these two movements together"?

引用:

To control speed, we need to use more pivoting , on the other hand if ski fast, we need less pivoting and to the extreme; almost no pivoting ( carving - 2 pensil line on snow ) That's why the CSCF doesn't talk about pivoting at all.
That won't do, pivoting is a vital skiing technique, and when not enough pressure to "steering," the skis will result in pivoting (by the momentum and gravity), so, how do you "steering"? What CSCF says about it?

:)
