You are correct, but you are talking about "line skiing." One must learn how to turn first before he or she can "apply" the technique to ski a line, and "line skiing" utilize the terrain to save energy and increases performance, which requires additional "mountain" knowledge, thus "line skiing" is a higher skill/technique than "turn skiing." And that's why the ski racing was developed from slalom to nowadays Super-G.

nevertheless, for us reactional skiers to pursue racing skills is "好高騖遠" pursuit, imo. I have too many times that I have to correct my friends' illfated carving technique, by teaching them "slipping turn" and proper line selection, to make them a "smooth" skier again. (Otherwise, they couldn't follow me through the trees.)

You can "choose" your own line only in the bumps, because the "resolution" of the bumps quite uniform and matches your "turn radius," nevertheless, when you ski trails and flat terrain, your fancy short turns performance becomes your limitation, you have to turn with the "turning radius" of the skis, and you'll be out of balance if you don't follow the radius of the ski, so you turn back and forth to go where you want to go, and that's the essence of "Turn Skiing," so, you cannot choose your own line on the smooth groomers. "Turn skiing's" performance is limited by "turn radius" of skis.

I can say that you are partly right. Once one know how to turn, that they start to find the line to get down the hill. There are so many skiers or riders on the slope and one must find a line down the mountain. A good skier can find a predetermined route, the line down the hill while a less skilled skier can only 見步行步

A good skier should be able to carve or steer and even skid the skis on a smooth manner. If a guy only lock on the edges, for sure he can't considered a very good skier. A lot of inexperienced racers can only carve and skid in a rough manner when they can't carve.

I can ski the bumps in many ways, different lines according to the turns I made, depends on the condition and steepness of the runs. Snowrider skied with me and he saw that. Even with Snowrider, I didn't ask him to record my skiing although he got go pro on his helmets.
