I finally got some time to work with the videos that I shot the past winter. I am wondering if anyone can tell me how I can edit my video files and then post to YouTube. I have tried to upload some small video clip to YouTube with no problem. However, most video files are very big. I want to work (trim/edit/cut) with them before uploading to YouTube. Does anyone happen to know an easy way to handle this problem?

did you export the video in the iPhone format and/or lower res. That will shrink down the files quickly.

I don't know how to export from GoPro to some other formats. The file format is MP4. The thing is that I want to edit/cut/trim them.

You can download MovieMaker from Microsoft. It is free. It will take a long time to import if the file is large.

taichiskiing - Thanks for the info. So the video wa made by using Apple iMovie! I'll check it out. BTW, have you received the DVDs that I mailed out last week?

Well, the problem with gopro and contour kind of "Point of View" (POV) cameras is their format (mp4) is good for "display" on electronic devices such as iphone, ipad, and TV, etc., but it is terrible in editing (video and audio not matched, skip frames, and etc., so you need to convert the clips to wmv, mpeg, or quicktime .mov (the best) format before you do the editing. When editing, there are quite a bit envolved, but if you only want to "cut" clips, try mpeg streamclip from "Square 5," easier.

Have not gone to the post office, yet, will check; on Monday it wasn't in. Thanks for sending.
:)
IS
There should not be any difference in quality between mp4,mpeg and.mov because they all are H.264. You can read up the difference between codec and container.

Snowrider, received the DVD you sent, thanks. Comparing your Gopro's images and Jack's Contour's, Contour has much darker images and skippy; I think that the Gopro has better qualities and much smoother. Need helps to put some of the clips on youtube? Let me know, I can put them up for you.

taichiskiing - What a wonderful finale! You really enjoy this life style - skiing half year and fishing the other half. Jack and I both agree that we should join you at Tahoe when we retire. About editing videos, I can use Win7's Windows Live Movie Maker to handle MP4 file format. I'll take time to play with it. Here is one that I uploaded the other day:
